Quantitative Research

Urban–Rural Disparities in HIV Care Access

Data: Medicaid MAX/PC (2009–2012), AIDSVu, AHRF · Population: 49,596 people living with HIV.

Approach: Geospatial network analysis of one‑way drive time from enrollee ZIP centroids to clinician practice locations with sensitivity analyses across rurality definitions, specialties, and states; covariate adjustment at individual and county levels.

Impact: Rural median drive time 43.6 minutes vs 11.9 minutes urban (p < 0.0001); 38% of rural members traveled over one hour—evidence used to prioritize transportation and clinic placement.

mRNA COVID‑19 Vaccine Effectiveness in Cirrhosis

Data: VOCAL cohort of U.S. veterans with cirrhosis · Design: Retrospective cohort with propensity‑matched vaccinated vs. unvaccinated groups.

Approach: 20,037 vaccine recipients matched to 20,037 controls on baseline factors; baseline labs harmonized within 90 days; propensity weighting and time‑to‑event models; comparison of BNT162b2 vs mRNA‑1273.

Impact: 64.8% infection reduction after dose 1 and 78.6% after dose 2; 100% protection against hospitalization or death within seven days of the second dose.

Qualitative Research

Content Analysis of Online Recipes

Data: 207 recipes and 2,818 comments from a social platform, collected via fresh accounts with no search history.

Approach: Codebook‑driven content analysis with high inter‑rater agreement (raw agreement ≈ 0.97); extracted nutrition profiles by primary ingredient.

Findings: Seafood/vegetable‑based recipes had fewer calories and less sodium, sugar, and cholesterol than meat/poultry recipes; popularity skewed toward higher‑calorie items.

NLP Sentiment on Taste vs. Health

Data: Comment corpus from the same recipe dataset.

Approach: Natural language processing sentiment analysis to quantify user emphasis on taste, complexity, and health attributes.

Findings: Users weighted taste more heavily than complexity and health, explaining engagement patterns inconsistent with nutrition quality.
